Interesting Discovery

I love my food to be strong tasting and I have found in the past when I am eating healthily that if I’m cooking quickly food can be quite bland.
It’s easier at the weekend when I have time but when I’m late home from work and hungry if my dinner is bland I’m more likely to want to snack.
Well I was looking round the supermarket this week and I came across herbs and spices in a tube. They looked different and were on special offer so I bought a chilli, a ginger and a garlic. You freeze them and use them when you want. Quick check on the back and they aren’t full of fat or anything.
They are great, I’ve just had a stir-fry and in the past I would have used a sauce which tasted great but probably doubled the calories of the meal. I used just a very little of each and they were very powerful.
I love ginger in stir-frys but I could never be bothered to peal and chop up a tiny bit of ginger, with this it is straight out of the freezer and into the wok.
I don’t want this to sound like an advert but I think this might help. It’ll help me get flavour into food in a hurry and also avoid the risky issue of chopping up chillis (I always end up touching somewhere I shouldn’t!).

    Hi
If your only time to cook is on the weekend, how about having a cooking fest, and cook things for the entire week and freeze them. That way, you can take whatever out in the morning, and by the time you get home, all you have to do is heat and serve! Hope it works for ya. have a great day!

I have a lot of spices at home, but I find this interesting about herbs and spices in a tube. Can you tell me where you get it?

    Huggggggs,

I’m in the UK and picked it up in Tescos, it was with the fresh herbs in the supermarket.

I do cook to store but I tried that the other week and had a bit of a binge disaster (it was there so I ate it!) so I’m trying to avoid that for a couple of weeks, until I’m sure I can trust myself.

I am the # 1 bland cooker! Just ask anyone in my family… HA! And while I do realize the food is not at it’s top potential, I just have absolutely no knowledge of spices and such. My usuals are onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper… and Tony’s seasoning!! That’s pretty much it. I suppose I always set myself up to expect bland food when I’m trying to eat healthy, and in my head I say… “You eat to live, not live to eat!” so your food doesn’t have to be delicious, just ediable! This is terrible I know. Thanks for your tip, I don’t know if we’ll have what your talking about here in south Mississippi… but I’ll keep a look out! Best wishes with your weight loss effort!

I just bought some here in Canada, but they include canola oil. I still use them because they only add 10 calories per 3/4 of a tsp. That’s a lot of flavour packed in 10 calories. They come in garlic, ginger, cilantro , lemon grass, parsley, italian herbs, dill, and a bunch of others. I can’t use fresh herbs up fast enough with just the two if us, and I find they dry up in the freezer.Dry herbs lose their flavour quickly, so these seem to fit the bill nicely. They’re easy to store, and use. I’m going to try the lemon grass next on fish.
