Dreaming of my holiday
I’ve spent most of this weekend dreaming about my holiday. It isn’t until November but it is three weeks in Orlando. I’m going with my parents, for two main reasons, I am an airline employee so have access to perks etc. and the fact that the motels all have two double beds in the rooms so I can stay for not much extra cost. We have now booked the flights and the theme park tickets (including a day in Discovery Cove for me) and decided where we are staying (my dad’s favourite hobby is looking up holiday things online and finding a bargain). Although I’m trying not to think about how much cash I now owe my dad.
It’s 11 years since I was last there but other than the theme parks there is one main thing I remember, the food!
Now I am fully aware that it is possible to eat healthily in the area but we didn’t and my dad loves value for money, so we ended up eating at places like the ponderosa steakhouse. I found a link to their website on a forum today and oh the amount of food and the price, the exchange rate is almost $2 to £1 at the moment so I can half any price I see but in lots of cases the stuff we get here is the same amount they just swap a $ for a £.
I think my favourite fast food (we tried out most of the brands!) was the taco bell. I think there is one in London but apart from that it doesn’t exist in the UK. We also ate at the Mexican in Epcot and that was the first time I knew that that sort of food existed other than chilli. I still enjoy it just try to have a healthy version.
I’m a bit dangerous in all you can eat places and I imagine we’ll end up in a few even if we don’t unless something has radically changed the portion sizes are larger anyway. I don’t intend to try to stay on plan but I already know that. I hope that walking miles around theme parks all day will help to counteract the amount of food I will be fueling myself up with.
As I have spend the day thinking about food I’m making myself one of my favourite meals, steak wraps. It has it’s inspiration in fajitas and as I have worked out a way to cook it on plan, it is very filling but isn’t cheating.
I know this was a bit of a mixed up blog but it was my attempt not to eat the entire fridge in the time it took to cook my dinner. As it is now nearly ready I will sign off.

I’ve paid the price for thinking about food all day. I’m now suffering from food poisoning.
Sounds like you have a plan…yes there a lot of great places to eat, and it is a vacation. But, look at it this way…it’s a vacation, and not a “free pass” to an all you can eat holiday. You’ve done so great already…Just think of all the walking you’ll be doing, the sightseeing..and meeting new people. Just make good food choices…you can have a great holiday, while eating healthy…and the more energy you’ll have to enjoy yourself. I hope you have a wonderful time!
i LOVE mexican, salads and fajitas are a good healthier way to go– yum yum yum.
Hey sue, thanks for the blog comment, you’re right as always!
It is the perfect time to start giving it all my effort again so I am really gonna go for it this week!
Ooooh your holiday sounds really exciting
def don’t worry too much about it, I think it is natural to gain a little weight on holiday but best thing to do is use these next few months to really work hard and get off some more of the weight and then when it comes to going you will prob feel more motivated to not go crazy anyway. Maybe just try being as healthy as poss on alternate days then allow yourself a bit of a treat on the other days.
Like wildflower says, you can eat healthily and still enjoy your hol, but don’t let it control your fun cuz you will end up resenting it and risk a binge! We all have to treat ourselves sometimes and holidays are the perfect time to do so. Keep counting down the days, and I wish you all the luck in the world getting some of thos extra lbs off before your trip. You really deserve lots of happiness x
